We accept competition entries via our online competition form below. Please note that, as outlined in our Terms and Conditions, winners will not be published in a Spellbinder issue but only on our website.
As these competitions have been set up to engage with our online communities, we’d like to track how many of the entrants follow us @spellbindermag on either IG or X. You will be asked to provide your social media handles below so that we can track this.
We are currently accepting entries for our Annual Writing Competition until 15th November 2024, at midnight UK time (GMT).
Stories of Hidden Shadows – A Mystery Writing Competition
For this year’s writing competition, we are looking for poetry and flash fiction works that loosely adhere to the theme of ‘Stories of Hidden Shadows’. In this mystery-themed writing competition, we invite you to explore the depths of suspense, curiosity, and intrigue. We welcome a wide range of subjects, including but not limited to: crime, the supernatural, psychological dilemmas, or surreal encounters. Whether your mystery is chilling or hauntingly beautiful, focus on creating tension, sparking wonder, and keeping us guessing until the very end. And remember: some mysteries are best left unsolved.
We accept poetry and flash fiction submissions within these guidelines:
Poetry
- Maximum of 30 lines per poem.
- Maximum of 1 poem.
- Note: Free verse, formal verse and anything in between is welcome.
Flash fiction
- Up to 1K words.
- Maximum of 1 piece.
Maximum one entry per person is permitted. Your entry will be considered invalid if you do not adhere to the guidelines above and/or if you submit more than once.
Your work should not exceed more than 10% of the maximum total word/line count, as detailed above.
Prizes
Two winners will be selected, one for poetry and one for flash fiction, and each of them will have a choice of a paperback copy of Spellbinder of choice OR a free yearly subscription to our website with access to digital issues of Spellbinder. The winning entries will also be published on our website.
Two runner ups will be selected and mentioned on our website.
